Embroidery
The beautiful art of embellishing a fabric using needle and threads is called embroidery. Even materials like metal, pearls, beads, sequins are used to create stunning embroidery. There are unlimited stitches used in hand embroidery- most popular being the chain stitch, long stitch, cross-stitch, blanket stitch, running stitch, and satin stitch. Embroidery, today, is also done with various kinds of machines, even though hand embroidery remains the most laborious and exquisite.
The world over, embroidery has evolved since its inception. It has always remained one of the best and most valued arts. Many kings, rulers and governments initiated several projects to protect few endangered arts associated with embroidery. The traditional hand embroidery being difficult to do is overtly expensive than the machine one which is an imitation of the handiwork.
In a traditional embroidery, materials on which the needlework is done vary from place to place. Wool, linen and silk have always been the most common canvas for it. But with the advent of machines and new ideas, many other surfaces have come up, with embroidery also taking different shapes and colors.
Hand embroidery incorporates various kinds of intricate stitches. The contemporary form of machines embroidery is done through computerized software, where different kinds of "fills" add texture and designs to the end product. Machine embroidery today is hugely popular and is used by top-notch companies to design shirts, jackets, caps, and even linen, available at a cheaper cost than one embroidered by hand. Thus it keeps the art alive.
