Brazilian Embroidery

Embroidery should not just be nice and crisp, but should also soothe the eye. And what can be more soothing than flowers. Brazilian Embroidery promotes flower-designs created in wonderful pictures in linens, pillows, accessories. It is a three-dimensional embroidery technique which dappers up a normal embroidery. The threads used in this technique are one hundred percent Rayon; z-twist treads which can withstand even hardboiled water. Rayon is widely produced and available in Brazil, hence the thread-type is popularly used in the embroidery.

Brazilian Embroidery is done predominantly with dimensional stitches using the “z” twisted rayon threads stitching beautiful and colorful flowers. The Brazilian art of embroidery is very popular and is constantly growing with new designs being added to its kitty.

A peculiar style of this beautiful art is the need to tie knots after every stitch. This style features allow embroiders to tie knots at both the beginning and end of their threads, leaving at least ¼” tails beyond the knots and fray them out. The tails are later hidden after the stitching gets completed.

Some of the stitches used, give an amazing dimensional look, include the Bullion, Cast-on Buttonhole, Couching, Detached Buttonhole, Drizzle, Leaf Stitch, Pistil and Stem Stitch. It is very important that while forming the knots of Brazilian Embroidery, the embroiderer must wrap the thread onto the needle in the opposite direction from that used in other types of embroidery. Otherwise the fibers of the thread will unravel and make the resulting stitches and knots unattractive.
