Sherwani Suits
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was perhaps the pioneer of the ethnic fashion trend in India. He was astute and elegant in his ever popular jacket as he managed the administrative affairs of the country. He may not realized he became a fashion icon. Over the years the trademark ‘Nehru Jacket’ has returned to fashion. It has evolved into the highly fashionable and classy sherwani suits. Considered to be the hallmark of ethnic Indian mens wear, sherwani suits are today a symbol of status and royalty.

Sherwanis are the preferred attire for weddings and other Indian festivals. Although they can be purchased readymade, it is recommended to get them custom made, for a structured cut. Most sherwani suits are made from rich fabrics like brocade and terry wool. The jacket usually flaunts the embroidery work or pattern. Depending on the needs of the wearer, light or heavy embroidery is used along with intricate threadwork or beadwork and fancy stones. For the lower garments, the churidar is most preferred with sherwanis. For some the Indo-western sherwani suit variation is also fascinating to opt for. The ensemble is completed with a safa (turban) and mojaris (juti) worn as an alternative to shoes. The mojaris are generally made out of the same fabric as the sherwani and the work on it is similar to that done on the jacket, so that the two match. Today, there the designers can create cutting edge patterns for sherwani suits which are sold both at retail stores and online.
